Son Heung-Min Rejected Transfer to Manchester United
Despite strong interest from Manchester United, Son Heung-Min rejected a transfer to the English giants in favour of Bayer Leverkusen.
The South Korean attacker compounded on a disappointing transfer window by Manchester United, when he decided to remain in the Bundesliga rather than move abroad.
Son is ambidextrous with world-class dribbling ability. His pace allowed him scored to joint most goals from counter-attacks in the Bundesliga last season (4). The versatile forward can play as a striker, central attacking midfielder or on either wing.
“Manchester wanted Sonny, they had a strong interest and had contacted HSV. We already talked,” his agent, Thies Bliemeister, reported to Bild. “Their interest honoured him, but Leverkusen made the better impression. It’s the ideal interim stage for his career right now.”
Manchester City were also reportedly interested, but made no concrete effort to purchase Son from HSV.
Son Heung-Min was transferred to Bayer Leverkusen this past transfer window from fellow Bundesliga club, Hamburger SV, for a fee of €10 million.
The Leverkusen striker will do battle with his former suitors in this week’s UEFA Champions League clash between Bayer Leverkusen and Manchester United at Old Trafford.
